Is this PC + Mobile ‘WoW Lite’ Able to Provide Entertainment Both at Home and On the Go?
Ahoy there, adventurers! Are you ready to set sail for uncharted waters? Tarisland, the upcoming free-to-play MMORPG from Netmarble, recently hosted a closed beta, and I was lucky enough to snag an invite. After diving headfirst into its vibrant world, I’m here to share my first impressions on what promises to be a captivating adventure.
First Impressions: A Feast for the Eyes
Stepping into Tarisland feels like stepping into a watercolor painting come to life. Lush, vibrant landscapes greet you, from sun-drenched beaches and verdant forests to snow-capped mountains and shimmering coral reefs. The environments are diverse and teeming with detail, each one offering a unique atmosphere and sense of discovery.
Character Creation: Forge Your Legend
Tarisland offers a robust character creation system, allowing you to customize your appearance down to the finest detail. Choose from a variety of races, each with their own distinct lore and abilities, and then tailor your look with a plethora of hairstyles, facial features, and clothing options. The possibilities are endless, and you’re sure to find a combination that reflects your inner adventurer.
Combat: Action-Packed and Strategic
The combat in Tarisland is a satisfying blend of action and strategy. You’ll have access to a variety of skills and abilities that can be chained together to unleash devastating combos on your enemies. Mastering the flow of combat and utilizing your skills effectively is key to overcoming challenging encounters.
Beyond the Battles: A World Awaits
Tarisland offers more than just epic battles. You can explore a vast open world filled with quests, secrets, and activities to keep you engaged. Whether you’re gathering resources, crafting gear, solving puzzles, or simply soaking in the scenery, there’s always something to do.
Rough Seas Ahead: Early Concerns
While the closed beta left me excited for Tarisland’s potential, there were a few areas that raised some concerns. The story felt somewhat generic during my time with it, and the voice acting occasionally suffered from inconsistencies. Additionally, some players reported technical issues such as frame rate drops and server lag.
Setting Sail for Adventure: A Promising Voyage
Despite its early stumbles, Tarisland has the potential to be a truly captivating MMORPG. The world is beautiful and inviting, the combat is engaging, and there’s a wealth of content waiting to be discovered. Netmarble has a lot of work to do before launch, but if they can address the concerns from the beta and continue to polish the game, Tarisland could be a major player in the free-to-play MMORPG scene.
